Custom Wire Spring Assemblies
Custom spring assemblies are made up of several different items assembled in various combinations. The basic core or foundation of the spring assembly is usually a “J” bolt (or) a pair of draw bars. The “J” bolt is either threaded or drilled. (Go to the “J” bolt drawing and fill in your dimensions) or if you are using draw bars, (go to our draw bar drawing and fill in your dimensions). We can also supply plain nuts and lock nuts if required for threaded “J” bolts
The second assembly item to consider if required, is a spring. We furnish three standard spring shapes Linier—conical—or barrel. Go to our spring drawings and fill in your requirements.
The next thing to consider is the assembly accessories such as chain. We usually furnish ( zinc plated, straight link, welded machine chain.) Either #2 or #4 in various lengths. Individual links have the following dimensions
- #2_.148” dia. wire, I.D. Length .610”, I.D. Width .260”, Load Rate 325 #
- #4_.120” dia. wire, I.D. Length .550”, I.D. Width .210”, Load Rate 215#
The most popular is #2. Consider how this chain attaches or fits the other spring assembly components.
Many spring assemblies require a hitch pin. We stock standard zinc plated hitch pins in two sizes
- .148” dia. Wire X2 15/16” long
- .177” dia. Wire X 3 ¾” long
Note: If you are using a drilled “J” bolt with .156” dia. standard holes, the largest dia. hitch pin you can use is .148”.
Some spring assemblies require various flat or cupped washers. We have tooling for several standard cup washers. See our cup washer design page and select one of our standards or design your own. Keep in mind, that designing your own will involve tooling charges and can get very expensive. We can also supply flat cup washers.
